As contests might now be entering their third year - although there has not been much word of them lately - I would like to bring up again the idea to establish some statistics about contest participation out of the data for each individual venue.
There are so far already several winners in the same pair in more than just one Contest. Some even accomplished the extra feat of winning in a given language pair in both directions, while others came out best in completely different language combinations. And yet some others managed to come rather high up on the list several times, without really getting the pot.
Could it not be a nice idea to have some collected Contest statistics, showing for instance in -
Table 1
A ranking list for participants with numbers of first, second and third places - as in sport competitions
Table 2
A ranking list for participants with an aggregate number for first, second and third places, maybe based on three points for first place, two points for second place and one point for third place
Table 3
A ranking list for participants according to number of language parings, and maybe also for numbers of Contest participations
This would set up a sort of ongoing competition, as the ranking of highest numbers of wins might change over the time. And also this could be an extra incentive for participation - with the possibility of conferring some contest kudoz even for those who so far did not yet "quite" make it to the top. -
Compounding the results of the otherwise isolated and ephemeral single events could confer an extra, ongoing dimension to the Contest venue.
The technicalities for it are most probably already well established in the platform, as similar computing is continuously done for KudoZ activities.
Of course, this has a lot to do with vanities. - But they are mainly what Contests are for in the first place, are they not, and what makes up for an essential part of the fun of them.
The above is just a first draft. Maybe others have more or better ideas.
