Hello Everybody!

How lucky I have been today to come across such an extremely interesting and beneficial site. It might be such a boon that I have been seeking for.

No Sooner Have I signed up than I wrote down this very topic to you all.

Having finished my higher Diploma in English-Arabic Translation , with BA in English Language Teaching and Literature, I have had the chance to practice translation for more than 12 years in varied fields including medical and engineering.

However, most of these translations is related to my work as a translator , or international purchase manager.

I would like to say hello for everybody and I will appreciate if you be good enough to assist me in the following issues:

1) Give such a brief guide how I can get advantage of such esteemed site.

2) How could I be a good member over here in translation, TSL, TOEFL or related forums.

3) How could I find a chance to get so involved in Translation activities to share , contribute and enhance my capability and ability in translation.

4) is there a chance to get an outline or help for a scholarship or a better job.

Thanks for everybody , Should I apologize for writing without having a good enough navigation to such great site.

With my best regards

Saleh

Advice on Use of the Site Aug 7, 2012

Dear Saleh

Welcome to the site. If you want to improve your experience as a translator, you have come to the right place.

There is really no alternative to exploring the site yourself, but it is extremely comprehensive and a section has recently been created to guide new Users: http://www.proz.com/guidance-center

There is really no alternative to exploring the site yourself, but it is extremely comprehensive and a section has recently been created to guide new Users: http://www.proz.com/guidance-center

Some members have also volunteered to act as Site Guides to help new Users to find their way around the site: http://www.proz.com/guidance-center/get-help

I would recommend that you take some time to develop your Site profile, as this is the image you present on the site to potential clients. There is an article about this here: http://www.proz.com/translation-articles/articles/3452/

Good luck.

Welcome Saleh! Aug 8, 2012

In addition to what Russell says, I'd like to add that there is a section on terms help called Kudoz, where colleagues post questions in their respective combinations (and where you can post questions as well when you need help). Suggested answers are sent to your mailbox, and you can choose the one you think best suits you. Should you want to help others out, you can also join in. Your selected answers win you points that show your expertise.

The site is not really into TSL or TOEFL, and most of the jobs advertised in the Jobs section are for freelancers. It may be safe to say that most ProZ.com members are self-employed.

In answer to your question on scholarships, this forum "Professional Development" contains links to the major institutions offering them. Just click on "Professional Development" -> "Last" to access the old posts. A direct link to them is: http://www.proz.com/forum/91?start=600

It would also be useful to study grant offers by local universities.

Dear Russell Jones,

I really appreciate your prompt response and your posting useful links for me to follow; to explore the site, get help from site guides, and to develop my profile.

I have visited those lines, and am going to go through for more details.

Those notes only reflects your good experience just to show the right path to lunge in.

I will keep up.

I have posted a reply last night, I wonder as it is not successfully posted.

Thank you

Saleh
