Over the years, I’ve managed to build a strong client base with long-term customers who send regular work and pay my rates on time. I have a single “complaint”: I’d like to use more my other source languages (FR, ES, IT) and projects have been almost exclusively in English…

Who in their right mind would criticise their clients here, given that anyone can come and look? If I were to say "well one always pays late, another is really demanding even though they pay my lowest rate, I hate that one's attitude, and the last has a rotten TMS that I can't get my head round... and somebody working for an agency that sends me work happened to read this thread... No matter, I love my work and nobody's perfect (not even me)!

Curiously enough, my best four clients, who represent 70% of my income, are not ideal clients because they all pay a bit lower rate than my standard rate or the rate I expected to charge. But since they represent 70% of my income, I have to go along with it. We negotiate rates regularly, but they never reach the ideal point.

I’d prefer someone passionate with their project, really. Corporate entities are ideal in a sense that they are systematic, practical, and they pay the exact amount. Amateurs are a bit risky because some try to not pay but I love it when a client is passionate about their ideas. I feel like someone’s business partner.
