Does anyone know what's the cheapest way of getting one? Every single agency at the moment sends me their CRB application forms and expects me to pay £65-75 for that. Is there an umbrella body to which I could apply directly?

How are interpreters in the UK dealing with this?

You shoul not pay more than about £55-57 for CRB check, there are lots of companies who offer these services.

but they all seem to ask for the standard or enhanced check.

Can't I just apply for the basic check and send them the copy?

I would advise to have an enhanced crb, it's only about £10 difference

freelancers can only apply for the basic check. I will have to ask each agency individually if they can accept it.

Ok, I checked mine. Definitely Enhanced. Have been using Mayflower Disclosure services for years, always requesting enhanced disclosure, never any problems.
