This procedure can be used to combine Microsoft terminology in TBX format to create new language combinations. The second part can also be used to combine any two glossaries that share the same source language, to create a new glossary that matches both target languages (one of them as the source, the other as the target).

The second part can also be used to combine any two glossaries that share the same source language, to create a new glossary that matches both target languages (one of them as the source, the other as the target).

Part 1: Downloading and processing the TBX files

Download the Microsoft terminology files that you want to combine (e.g. English-German and English-Dutch):

1

(Note that you will lose the definitions.)

Import both files into two separate TMs, via the Memory > Import menu.

Create two new glossaries (one for each language combination).

Export both TMs to the corresponding glossary, via the Memory > Export menu.

Part 2: Merging the glossaries

Load the glossary with the language that you want to use as the target in a text editor. Insert the glossary with the language that you want to use as the source at the end of the glossary opened in your text editor.

Add the new file, containing both glossaries, via the Glossary menu as a new glossary.

From the Glossary menu choose Merge.

You now have:

2

Open this combined glossary in your text editor:

3

Delete the English source terms and replace the semicolons with a tab character:

4

Now you have your new glossary, which may contain duplicate lines (as in the example above). Delete them via the Glossary > Merge command.
