Join/Split segments

Hi

I'm very new to CAT tools and I started exploring Cafetran Espresso 2015 (2015080701).
I'm navigating through the various helps/forums, etc

I'm learning the basics and I found how to navigate through segments and join them if necessary (button or ALT-Up). However I'm able to split the segments (ALT+S or button).

For example, I join 2 or 3 segments; I then try to split them back but nothing happens. Also there is no Undo capability.

I take it that you are not able to split segments? First of all, you have to place the cursor in the Source segment pane, at the position where you want to split the segment. Secondly, I guess that in some file formats (like SDLXLIFF) splitting isn't possible (I didn't verify this).

There is no Undo function.

I ran a quick test:


  • In a DOCX project I could Split and Join via the icons
  • In an SDLXLIFF project I could not Split or Join via the icons: I guess that this is by design (to avoid damaging the SDLXLIFF).

thx for the hint. It worked. I was pushing the Split button right after having pushed the Join. Probably it didn't work because no split point was set.
