can you recommend an online dictionary for Mac to be linked to Cafe Tran? Thread poster: Reba
| Reba Germany English to German
Dear all, I am new at working with CafeTran Espresso and I hope it is not a stupid question. Is it possible to link CafeTran with a downloaded dictionary, so by translating the program makes links to the dictionary? And if yes, do you know a good online dictionary to be downloaded on a Mac? I would be very thankful for some help. Thank you! Reba | | | Tom in London United Kingdom Local time: 09:15 Member (2008) Italian to English Mac dictionary | Jul 14, 2015 |
You already have an online Dictionary that comes as part of the Mac OS. Look for it in your Applications folder. | | | 2nl (X) Netherlands Local time: 10:15 | Michael Beijer United Kingdom Local time: 09:15 Member (2009) Dutch to English + ... Monolingual or bilingual? | Jul 14, 2015 |

I am also not entirely sure what you mean with "Is it possible to link CafeTran with a downloaded dictionary, so by translating the program makes links to the dictionary?" Could you maybe explain a bit more? Michael PS: Just saw Hans’s post. Probably better to continue this discussion in the CafeTran forum @ http://www.proz.com/forum/cafetran_support/288209-online_dictionary_for_mac_to_be_linked_to_cafe_tran.html

True, but I take it, the OP is looking for an English-German dictionary, and as far as I know, the Dictionary.app doesn't come with one. However: You can add one - you can add several, actually. Click here to download my story on how to do it. It also links to a number of sites where you can download free dictionaries. In any application (including CafeTran), select a term, hit a keyboard shortcut, and the Dictionary will pop up: You can add an online dictionary to the tabbed pane in CafeTran. Since you mentioned "download" this may not be what you want. You can add a downloaded dictionary to the tabbed pane. You'll have to mark-down a downloaded dictionary (see my first point), and import it into a CafeTran termbase or tab delimited glossary. I'm afraid this is what you want, and I'm not much in favour of it, at least not if you want to use it for auto-assemble. However, if you really want it, I can guide you. You are not necessarily looking for a (bilingual, English-German) dictionary that is hosted online, but just a dictionary that you can use inside CafeTran. Hmm, there are many options in that case. For example, for only €7.50, you can get Henk Sanderson's excellent IATE extraction, "English to German IATE terminology package" via https://www.tm-town.com/terminology-marketplace/en_de And this site also has a ton of downloadable bilingual dictionaries, many of them English-German: http://dicts.info/uddl.php (download them from this page) http://dicts.info/dictionaries.php http://dicts.info If you need a bit of help getting them CafeTran-ready, just ask (preferably over in the official CafeTran forum @ https://cafetran.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/6000006362 )!
