1. The formation of a new ecological chain of the security and protection industry(SPI).
The former closed security and protection system(SPS) is developing to be more open, so is its ecological chain. With the rapid change of technologies in this field, the old ecological chain has fallen into pieces gradually.
Over the past three decades, the ecological chain was simple: designing and manufacturing--engineering integration--software and hardware maintenance. But now it has evolved to be more complicated: user requirement--customization--designing and manufacturing--engineering integration--service, operation and maintenance--innovation and improvement.
However, with security products become more and more homogeneous, the whole industry has started to shift from productivity-orientated to consumer-demand-orientated. In an era of data being the king, SPS has transformed from being IT (information technology)-based to being DT (data technology)-based.
As anti-terrorism and maintaining stability have become a rigid demand for countries around the world, the value of video data has been gradually discovered. Besides, due to the steady growth of the SPI and other reasons, many new faces have been attracted to this industry from their former ones, which leads to increasingly significant changes in the SPI. The future of this industry is more than a stage for security enterprises.
Be it equipment suppliers, integrators, or installers that are responsible for the evaluation of data and providing more management value to consumers, there is no unified conclusion. Now what the SPI faces is the trickiest question: how to properly and comprehensively structuralize and manage data? It is not something that can be fundamentally pushed forward by a single enterprise. But on the other hand, it can facilitate the formation of a new ecological chain.
2. In order to tackle the problem of unstructured data, videos should be given more value.
In the SPI, 99% of the data is unstructured. The improvement of intelligent security system has been limited for a long time because of the stagnation in the development of traditional algorithms and chip technologies. Therefore, Deep Learning is required to make breakthroughs, so that objects can be studied, scenes segmented, people and vehicles analysed.
On the 2016 China International Exhibition on Public Safety and Security, Deep Learning was seen as the lynchpin for breakthroughs. The advancement in technology enables the SPI to develop more quickly and extend into more fields, and grants video more value.
In terms of “developing more quickly”, companies used to focus on “seeing clearly” (high definition video images and the equipment's capability to work in harsh environments), but now they attach more importance on helping users to “understand what they see”. In other words, the former emphasises the evidence collection after incidents while the latter strengthens the prevention of such incidents. Surmounting the difficulty of unstructured videos, the monitoring system is able to study and judge the situation, and dynamically recognize human faces, which remarkably promotes the real-time alarm rate and reduces the false alarm rate.
In terms of “extending into more fields”, the video monitoring system not only meets the demand for security and protection but also further explores the value of videos by virtue of Deep Learning and the computing capacity of unstructured data, such as making business decisions and improving business operational efficiency.
As a matter of fact, the SPI can draw lessons from the experience in other fields. State-of-art image chip technologies and algorithms have been widely used in areas such as dynamic facial recognition, intelligent transportation system, unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) image processing and remote sensing geographical image processing.
3. Anti-theft alarm, with the transformation accelerating.
In the past few years, although enterprises were constantly emerging in the anti-theft alarm industry, the overall trend seemed to remain relatively moderate. That was partly because the price war among companies resulted in profit squeeze, and partly because company strategies were inadequate. In the future, with anti-theft alarm system hardware being cheaper, the core profit for companies will inevitably come from their alarm service. Thus, it is worth discussing how to bring the system to families, to communities and to operators.
In 2016, Hikvison announced its acquisition of Pyronix, and Dahua Technology decided to cooperate with ADT China. Similar movements of these giants have caused panic in the industry: whether they will duplicate what happened in the video monitoring industry, sweeping the whole anti-theft alarm industry?
4. Will UAV, VR, robots be the new lifebuoy for the SPI?
If asked, what are the three most popular products in the electronic technology circle？Without doubt UAV, VR spectacles, and robots will the answer. They are the blue ocean market which various companies are eager to explore.
Some original equipment manufacturers in Shenzhen, China, have embraced waves of new businesses, ranging from smartphones to video cameras and to robots. These new market demands are their dependence for business. Nonetheless, their products share one thing in common: the excessively surplus supply, with low product quality and in all sorts of related forms. Very few of them can be called as quality and competitive goods.
5. The sluggish smart home market and the SPI.
According to a research report by Statista, the top five countries in the world in terms of the capacity of the smart home market are the US, Japan, Germany, China and the UK. The US has a $9.7125 billion market capacity in this industry, while Japan $1.1289, Germany $925.6 million, China $ 520 million, and the UK 477.5 million respectively.
In China, no company in the area has achieved real success. On one hand, Chinese consumers do not have a strong demand for smart home devices with simple functions. On the other hand, the core business of the consumer market is services, rather than basic hardware supports. For example, if an elder has a fall at home, even if the incident is detected by the camera, his family will still have to inform relevant workers for help. In such an emergent circumstance, time is gold. If the camera is linked directly to the community service and users pay for the service, then the product probably will be better welcomed.
But how to solve the privacy violation issue is a big concern for companies. That is why many companies go beyond the home monitoring into consumer camera products. Sports cameras and live video broadcasting service have been launched to meet young people’s demands and these products are less involved with people’s privacy and service problems while being more suitable for security companies to expand their businesses.
The biggest hindrance for the smart home market is that although the user group consisting of villa households and geeks is large, but average consumers between them are not interested in these products. Only when the average consumers are developed, can the smart home market has a fertile soil to thrive.
6. O2O, the popular business model, who are the winners?
It is reported that China’s O2O (Online to offline) market size has reached 300 billion Yuan in 2015, and is projected to be 380 billion Yuan in 2016. The group-buying service represented by Dianping.com has been deeply Internet-enabled and connected with users’ day to day life. Besides, the food delivery service, such as the one offered by ele.me, has not only helped restaurants to increase their business but also provided solutions, like intra-city delivery, to promote efficiency considerably. In the transportation service industry, companies such as Didi Taxi have successfully reduced the operation cost of taxis, created the Sharing Economy, and improved the transportation efficiency for citizens.
Even so, in the golden age for industries, has the SPI got a share? At present, owing to having the largest amount of consumers, the building intercom and parking lot businesses are closest to O2O among others in the industry. So theoretically, they can be expected to develop service models through their products. But realistically, the brand royalty has not formed among consumers yet, so there is no guarantee for consumption and consumer volumes.
Focus on the essential characteristics of O2O—The next goal for the SPI is to improve the efficiency of the supply chain through integrating resources, utilising and analysing user data thoroughly. Platforms are the future, though the most basic products are not good enough to attract customers now. How to establish new business and industrial chains is still waiting to be explored.
7. Mobile entrance control, infinite business opportunities apart from the hardware.
In 2015, the entrance control business has witnessed a 6.6% growth and is predicted to reach 7.2% in 2016, which is significantly higher than that of the video monitoring market. Behind those figures, there is an important message reflected: the trend is moving from the traditionally mechanical entrance guard system towards the electronic one. New innovative entrance control and recognition technologies are going to propel the industry with wireless access control and facial recognition being the most eye-catching ones.
For users, along with the showing up mobile entrance control, the biggest concern is the safety. Mobile chips replace entrance cards and keys, so how to bolster security will be the most important thing for manufacturers to think about.
To open doors remotely with mobile terminals is certainly going to save many troubles for users, and when such mobile applications gain their recognition, the business will soar to its greatest height.
8. The electronic lock, the saviour for the building intercom.
The growth of property development in China was only 1% in 2015, compared with its rapid development in the past decade. The building intercom business was hugely affected by this change. In order to face the challenges, building intercom companies have continually extended their product lines. The electronic lock market has great potential in China, plus the existing channels which can be used to promote sales, this can be a new goal for building intercom companies.
There are two pivotal challenges facing the electronic lock industry: first, the encryption technique for its software; second, the improvement of quality requirements of lock cylinder against the mechanical unlocking. To endow their electronic locks with the necessary adaptability, companies are required to address the safety problem which consumers care most. Up to now, intelligent locks account for less than 3% of the market share in upscale hotels, villas, apartments and average families. But they will have a bigger market share with the maturity of techniques and decrease of prices, which will open another door for building intercom enterprises.
9. The end-to-end trend facilitates the emergence of giants.
The term “end-to-end” is not completely new in the SPI, and it has become increasingly noticeable with the development of security solutions. Such a trend will inevitably affect three kinds of practitioners in the industry: first, mere distributors, second, mere installers/integrators, and third, small and medium-sized equipment suppliers.
For distributors, the All-In-One model saves users a lot of hassles from picking products and enables them to enjoy the one package service. Albeit costs of distribution channels are reduced, the profit for distributors has been greatly cut.
For mere installers/integrators, the solution consulting service team from equipment providers has played a role which is similar enough to replace them. If they want to survive, the only job left for them would be “plumbers”, which is incomparable to what they used to do.
For small and medium-sized equipment suppliers, their profits have been tremendously squeezed due to the homogeneous competition. The lack of integrated solutions and the product cost-effectiveness has made these companies lose competitiveness and they will be eventually washed out from the market.
Some famous companies help users to solve the safety problem and meet their demands for camera applications. They integrate resources to provide end-to-end total solutions from cameras to data storage and to video streaming service with camera technologies at the core. Giants are springing up in the SPI which is an unavoidable trend after the industrial reshuffle in the past few years.
10. Cyber security, the sore point of the SPI
In the last 2 years, there are an increasing number of discussions about cyber security while the demand for information security solutions is constantly surging. Product security will be a new rigid target in the years to come.
According to a selective inspection conducted in China, 8 out of 10 home cameras in the market has security flaws, which enable hackers to observe, record, and even broadcast users’ daily life.
Many a security manufacturer begins to enhance the security of their products on the levels of technique, designing, and business management. But so far, these measures are not adequate to deal with new security challenges as new problems are emerging ceaselessly. There will be some security companies particularly built with the purpose to tackle cyber security issues in the future. Meanwhile, governments and the industry need to establish safety standards for intelligent hardware so as to regulate the whole industry and promote the information security capacity of products.

The human body is highly efficient at degrading “naked” aptamers due to their nucleic acid composition. Symmetry Fund (SYMM) ICO
An unlimited amount of SYMM tokens will be released in the SYMM Initial Coin Offering (ICO). The ICO will be open for a period of 121 days at the exchange rate of 0.1 ETH per SYMM. One SYMM token will repre- sent a single share in the fund. From the ICO, most of the funds raised will be used for trading purposes. A small percentage of funds raised (up to 10%) will be held by the fund for prudent reserves and administra- tion. Holding back these funds forms part of SYMM’s risk mitigation measures.
An unlimited number of SYMM tokens will be available for purchase at a rate of 0.1 ETH per SYMM during the ICO. By sending Ethereum to the ICO smart contract address, investors will be able to purchase SYMM tokens. After sending the ETH to the address, the investor’s account will be credited with the corresponding amount of SYMM shares. There is no limit on the amount of times investors can purchase SYMM tokens throughout the ICO.
There are no discounts available on pre-ICO, pre-sale or during public sale. The price for 1 SYMM remains the same - @0.1 ETH.
There will be at least two rounds of the ICO:
1. Round One starts on December 10th, 2017, and continues until February 10th, 2018.
2. Round Two starts on February 11th, 2018, and continues until April 10th, 2018.

Moving from ICO to the Trading Phase
The rounds of ICO will close manually at the end of the relevant period of the ICO round. The ICO can be closed by a nominated administrator account. After closure of the ICO, the funds will be withdrawn from the contract and exchanged to fiat currencies.
To ensure that SYMM does not have an adverse impact in the markets that it will trade in, withdrawals from the ICO phase will be completed over a period of days or weeks. The withdrawals will be completed on a range of different exchanges to further mitigate potential market impacts. As the funds are being with- drawn from the contracts and exchanged to fiat currencies, the fund’s balances will be published and an- nounced on the blockchain. Trading will commence as soon as initial withdrawals have been made from the contracts. SYMM has a long-term vision and interest in the stability of cryptocurrencies and will not par- take in any activities that could jeopardize the longevity and future growth of cryptocurrencies. The starting value of the SYMM fund will be the USD-equivalent of the exchange rates of Ethereum withdrawn from the fund when the ICO closes.
The fund will move into the trading phase when the ICO has been successfully completed. In the trading phase, SYMM will be transferred between investors, dividend payments will occur and contract audits will take place utilizing the token contract.
The SYMM ICO opens on December 10th, 2017, and closes on April 10th, 2018. You will need Ethereum to in- vest in SYMM Tokens.

The Trading Phase
After the ICO successfully closes and funds are withdrawn from the ICO, the trading phase will commence. The trading phase will continue indefinitely with changes in trading activities such as pairs traded and fund allocation to be voted on by shareholders.
At the commencement of the trading phase, the capital value of SYMM will come from 90% of the capital raised in the ICO. This capital will be converted into fiat currencies and quoted in USD.
Operating and management costs will be covered with the remaining 10% of the funds raised in the ICO. Over the course of trading, operation and management costs will be returned to investors. A management fee will not be charged to SYMM investors until this 10% operation and management allocation is paid back.

Risk Management in Trading
Risk will be proactively managed by SYMM. A key strategy SYMM will employ to mitigate risk is storing SYMM’s capital in fiat currencies when not engaged in a trade. SYMM funds will only be held in cryptocur- rencies throughout the duration of trades. Holding funds in fiat currencies means the value of the fund will experience consistent growth without being constantly exposed to the, often volatile, fluctuations of crypto- currencies.
A percentage of the actively traded funds will be allocated against each cryptocurrency when trading. Alloca- tion of funds across traded cryptocurrencies will be determined based on stability and risk in that cryptocur- rency.
Specific signal risks for each cryptocurrency will also be used to determine fund allocation and balance risk. This is similar to the way mutual funds balance risk in non-cryptocurrency funds. Additional risk-mitigation strategies that will be implemented include:

With significant capital investment expected for SYMM, this could mean the fund’s value is sufficient to influence market direction. To mitigate the risk of SYMM’s funds influencing marketing direction, the fund will spread its trad- ing across multiple exchanges. This will prevent market demand from reducing or increasing beyond its natural levels as a result of SYMM’s trading activities.
To keep funds under the tolerated risk level, margin may be used so that less funds are exposed at the time of trade. With a trading strategy designed for a few select actions each day, this methodical and conservative ap- proach will support the long-term growth of the fund’s value and investor returns.
At launch of the trading phase, SYMM will be trading a selection of pairs that it believes to hold significant data on. Analyzing this data, in conjunction with the fund’s conservative approach will allow reliable, low-risk trades to be executed. Over time, expansion to different cryptocurrencies may occur based on fund growth and risk analysis. Expansion of the fund to other cryptocurrencies and markets will be put to a shareholder vote. Shareholder votes will be performed via smart contract on the blockchain.

Dividends
When SYMM makes a monthly profit, dividends will be paid to shareholders in ETH via a smart contract on the 3rd day of the month. Dividends will be immediately available to SYMM investors when the payment is sent to the dividend contract. Investors can then withdraw funds at a time of their choosing.
Profits are determined by subtracting the amount the fund was worth at the end of the previous month from what the fund is worth at the start of the current month, less management fees if applicable.
No management fees will be charged when there is no profit. Management fees are (i) 7.5% of profit for Class A and Class B shares bought during the first round of ICO, and (ii) 7.5% of profit for Class A shares and 15% of profit for Class B shares bought during the second round of ICO. Management fees will not com- mence until the 10% of operating costs subtracted from the ICO is repaid to investors.
Example
If SYMM makes $100,000 profit this month, SYMM would deduct the Class A and Class B fee accordingly.
Let’s assume $60,000 is subject to 7.5% fee of $4,500 and $40,000 is subject to 15% fee of $6,000.

From the total amount of monthly profit, 50% will be held in the fund for compounding growth, while the other 50% will be distributed to investors. This will provide shareholder value in the form of regular div- idend payments and compounding growth of your investment.
The percentage of profit to be held and compounded is subject to shareholder voting every 3 months.
It will be possible for shareholders to trade SYMM with other investors in the Ethereum network. SYMM investors will be free to trade their shares on an exchange of their choice. This allows investors to sell all or part of their SYMM shares for instant liquidity.
Shareholder Voting
Giving all shareholders the opportunity to vote on major decisions in the SYMM fund is a cornerstone of the trust and transparency measures that will be established in the fund. Matters that may be subject to a shareholder vote include trading patterns, capital raising for further investments, or exit route options for investors. Voting will take place on the blockchain with each SYMM share counting as a single vote. The majority of SYMM shareholders will need to take part in a vote for decisions to be carried out. With all votes cast and stored on the blockchain, the outcomes of each vote will be visible to shareholders at any time.

Technology
As a technology company, SYMM offers individuals the opportunity to gain exposure to the cryptocurrency market without the complexities of managing their own trades and associated technology.
Embedded in the ETH blockchain, SYMM is an ERC20-compliant token. It is embedded in the ETH blockchain as a smart contract. Other financial functions of SYMM will also be supported by contracts on the blockchain including management of the ICO, dividend payments, transparency measures, and voting.
There are several smart contracts that will operate throughout different phases in the SYMM fund from the ICO phase to the trading phase. These contracts deal with different parts of the fund. For example, when an investor purchases SYMM shares in exchange for tokens in the ICO phase, the contracts will execute the action of providing SYMM shares in exchange for tokens.
If the ICO phase does not meet its minimum investment requirement, the smart contracts can be used to wind down the ICO and return funds to investors. If, however, the ICO is successful, a smart contract will be used to commence trading by withdrawing ETH from the blockchain.

Trust and Risk Mitigation
Trust and risk concerns are natural for investors to have when new offerings hit the market. With cryp- tocurrencies and blockchain, however, increased trust and risk concerns can arise as a result of the addi- tional anonymity and privacy provided by blockchain technologies.
SYMM understands investors may have trust and risk concerns so the fund is addressing these concerns by establishing risk mitigation measures. This will ensure that risk is managed by the fund while delivering transparency and value to shareholders.
The SYMM fund is for shareholders and it invites any suggestions for further transparency measures that will continue to foster trust and strong relationships with our shareholders.
SYMM will establish key strategies to reduce risk, ensure transparency and deliver value for shareholders. These strategies include:

Translation - English My experience Switching from an EE major to a Silicon Valley software engineer

M was a BitTiger student. Currently he is working as a software engineer in a company in the San Francisco Bay Area. His undergraduate degree, master degree, and internship were all within the scope of EE. He had no experience in CS. However, after studying with BitTiger, he has got two SDE offers, one from a company in Silicon Valley and the other from an Asia-based bank.
Recently, I’ve got three offer so I’d like to share my experience of teaching myself to be a soft engineer from scratch. Since I had zero CS knowledge, initially I intended to find a job related to EE. But eventually I decided to change my career path to CS because there were too many limitations to work as an EE postgraduate.
What have caused me to change my professional direction? What opportunities have I missed before that?
1. Miss the biggest autumn recruitment before the graduation.
I did not start to look for jobs until March, when graduation was only two months away. I allowed it to slip away the golden opportunity of autumn recruitment the year before, thinking ample opportunities were yet to come. I regretted it.
2. The hardware knowledge gained and internship didn’t benefit me much in terms of personal development.
The knowledge I acquired at university proved of little practical use during the interviews, so I had to teach myself some hardware knowledge in order to get a job. Later on, I worked on FPGA testing in a hardware company as a trainee. Frankly speaking, deep in my heart I was reluctant to do the job. Because what I did had nothing to do with the core technology of the company (most local hardware companies wouldn’t open their core technologies to foreigners) and there were few opportunities for me to write code. It is true that hardware requires code writing as well but at that time most of my job was to deal with the tests left behind by my advisor. What is worse, the advisor didn’t teach me any practical knowledge that I couldn’t get access to at university. So my only option was to study it myself. Then the transportation upset me the most as I had to spend almost 5 hours on it everyday. Pus I had to prepare for interviews for full-time hardware jobs.
The hardware market was very sluggish as most companies did not want new graduates. As I did not have a lot of selling points in terms of hardware, I didn’t even get a rejection letter after sending out hundreds of CVs. Feeling exhausted though, I found it hard to give up EE, the major I had spent 6 years working on. It was not the payment I cared the most about, but whether I could learn something from doing the job. My internship provided me neither.
3. Make the decision
Based on my internship and job-hunting experiences, I started to consider changing my career direction. Few people then had made a successful switch to CS from EE, while most focused on finding an EE job or going back to China. It was a hard decision to make. I didn’t know where to start and it was painful to give up my major. Still the biggest concern was that I might fail. What if I couldn’t make it? After a long time of hesitance, I decided to take up the challenge. No matter which way I chose, I had to learn new things anyway. One advantage of studying CS was that I had lots of resources to rely on, such as open resources online and experiences shared by others. Besides, if I could nail down a job, the salary would be so much higher than the ones I could find before, which could help me to get by financially. As a result, I quit the job in November and flew back to California on December 1st. After that, job-hunting and studying became my daily routine.
How to study and prepare for a CS career.
Back then, I was completely a novice, knowing nothing about terms such as tree and hash table, let alone DP or Union Found. It was too embarrassing for me to ask such simple questions, so I tried to find out answers myself. Sometimes, for a small question that needed only 1 minute of asking, I’d rather spend hours to dig out the answer. It was very ineffective but that’s my way of learning.
1. Seek advice from people who have changed their working fields before.
Don’t blindly follow suit. Make your own decisions but seniors can give you some suggestions about how to prepare and carry out your plan.
2. Spend a week on doing some career research.
Find out the differences between front and back end developer jobs. What kind of technology stacks are involved? I eventually chose to be a backend developer.
• Front end: the job content is relatively easier but there are a multitude of technology stacks which are constantly updating. The interview will be tech-orientated and interviewers may test your skills such as JS.
• Back end: it is relatively harder but the updates of stacks are slower. The interviews will focus on algorithms (there seems to be some shortcuts to learn them) and the payment will be higher in the long run.
On the basis of advice given and my own research, here is my preliminary study plan:
1. learn a suitable programming language
• Java is favored by most companies. If time allows, JavaScript and Python are also good choices.
• Resources: all YouTube clips and the Tutorial Point which is very useful.
2. Understand fundamentals of data structures, such as array, tree, list, map, stack, queue, etc.
3. Practice coding on Leetcode.
4. Check what are missed out and learn some commonly used stacks in line with job descriptions.
5. Prepare the resume and some projects.
6. Send out the resume to companies whilst learning.
Do not focus too much on how many questions you solve but make sure that you cover every knowledge aspect you need to know. For example, when you’re practicing the use of Array and Tree, do not forget other aspects like Stack. For students who haven’t majored in CS, the basic knowledge must be included when you are making the study plan at the early stage.
The job-hunting process can be time-consuming, and even if you’ve sent out lots of CVs, it doesn’t necessarily mean there will be interviews. As a new grad, if you adopt the shotgun approach, your chance of getting an interview is slim. Even when there’s an employee of the company recommending you, the process from getting in touch with the HR to the final interview will give you enough time to prepare. So there’s no need to worry or rush. Trust yourself that you’ll get ready. Once you’re ready, seize every opportunity to ask for a recommendation. Chance favors the prepared mind. If you are not well-prepared, you would probably spoil the opportunities.
After the planning, I found it difficult to teach myself Java. Due to an unrealistic expectation for a quick success, I followed whatever seasoned practitioners told me to do. And the result was that I had no clue what I was learning. I got frustrated by the questions on Leetcode because I hadn’t studied coding before. What made things worse, I didn’t know how to use data structures and I found the algorithm answers undecipherable, which pushed me into serious self-doubt. I even thought about giving up.
People always say that everything starts hard before it gets easy. More or less, everyone goes through what I experienced. When I was working on the first 100 questions, I felt like an idiot. It was mere rote memorization of the answers. Sometimes, I didn’t even understand them. But this was exactly the time when perseverance mattered the most. I had solved 300 questions in total, but there were many people who had finished 400. And during the process, there were several stages and I had found my own way of formulating solutions. Eventually, I could tell the right approach and the optimal solution the second I saw the question. My brain got faster than it once was.
• The first 100 questions-This is the hardest and most frustrating period of time because your brain is trying to formulate codes and a logic way to thinking.
• 100-200 questions- for some less challenging questions, you probably can write the framework, but your code writing is unsatisfactory and your way of thinking is not logic enough.
• 200-300 questions- you can think independently with no reliance on the answers. Although there may be some bugs, your algorithm is correct in most cases.
• 300-400 questions- you are adept at writing codes and enjoy doing it. You can optimize your own algorithms and codes.
Two stages of developing skills through solving questions
1.The beginner stage
• Every week, the questions BitTiger demonstrates during classes and leaves for homework are frequently tested ones. Work on these questions. Meanwhile, you can also find more questions on the internet which are prone to be tested as well.
• For the questions that you don’t know how to solve, there’s no need to waste too much time on them. Check answers if you can’t figure them out in 10 minutes.
• For questions that you don’t even understand. Type in all the codes provided by answers. Sometimes you’ll figure out after typing them in. If there is still something vague, ask someone for help.
• Unless you have a solid knowledge of CS or Mathematics, don’t bother with the optimal solution at this stage.
2.The intermediate-advanced stage
• Solve questions with different tags in accordance with your skill levels, such as from easy to medium and then to hard.
• If there’s an interview, focus on the questions frequently tested.
• Try to fully comprehend the solutions instead of memorizing them.
• Ensure the optimal solution. Take some time to think about the time and space complexities after solving the question.
Several tips about how to learn
1. learn to grow under pressure
• Know yourself. No one is perfect or able to absorb all knowledge overnight. Keep working hard and making progress.
• If you’re lost in the answer, try the solution with Test Case. Try it several times until you finally get it.
• Don’t depend on others. Think independently. At the beginning, repetitive question-solving is the only way to learn. For beginners, quantity breeds quality. Keep practicing.
• Think about how to learn, another master degree? an institute? or teaching yourself? I chose to learn with BitTiger because, as my friends recommended, it offers systematical training.
• Learn how to deal with pressure and anxiety. To do some exercise can reduce the level of anxiety and improve your study performance.
• Remember: avoid unnecessary social activities. When I first came to California, I found myself surrounded by so many geniuses. I thought it might be conducive to my career if I hung out more with them. But it turned out to be a waste of time as I was not ready then.
• Know your priorities. At that time, my priority was to survive and get offers so it was worthwhile to sacrifice some social activities.
2. Fill the CS knowledge gap
Try to gain some CS knowledge at spare time. Make the most of online training resources and strike a balance between acquiring new knowledge and practicing skills.
• Only solving question is not enough because algorism is not everything. As a matter of fact, during my interviews, the algorithms were a piece of cake. Instead, the interviewer asked me various technical questions about projects, such as Kafaka and Spark.
• Divide your time smartly. For example, you can practice your question-solving skills 6-8 hours a day, 7 days a week. But every night, you should spend 2-3 hours on projects. Make sure that you fully understand the point of each step of projects as much knowledge involved could be questions during an interview, such as what’s the difference between NoSQL and MySQL.
• Before sending out your CV, look at job descriptions and try to bone up popular technology stacks related to front end and back end like JS, RESRful, API, Django, Spark, Kafka, database, etc. It is unrealistic to expect yourself to be an expert in a short time, but you must know something about them just in case they pop up during interviews.
• Find some suitable projects to do on platforms or websites such as GitHub, BitTiger, Coursera, Udemy and Udacity. My personal choice is BitTiger and I have been doing projects on BitTigher since the beginning.
