Hello everyone

Does anyone know of a utility that can export translated text from Moravia's QA tool (QA_app-v1.2.10.exe) to a format that allows editing and commenting (e.g. tab-delimited plain text or Excel), and then import the updated content back to the QA tool's XML file? Every time I accept a job with this tool, I'm tempted to believe that the tool itself was designed specifically to waste time. But perhaps tool was simply designed for editing at a stage where there would be only a handful of edits (though sadly, many jobs that come with this tool have a multitude of issues, and so takes up an exponential amount of time).

Although edits/comments/gradings of exact repetitions can be propagated by the first editor, subsequent responses are not. The translator has to respond to each edit individually, and the editor has to respond to each of the translator's responses individually. I often wonder if the client realises that by making it difficult and time-consuming to do the editing, and by making the subsequent steps even extra time-consuming, they are forcing the editor to correct only issues that are so extremely bad and obvious that the translator is unlikely to disagree with any of them (which can be hard to guess, since why would the translator have made those mistakes in the first place?).

At the moment, the fastest way for me to deal with the tool is to extract the source/target pairs from the XML file to e.g. Wordfast format, do the edit (e.g. using tracked changes, highlights or comments), and then manually copy/paste each edit into the tool itself and write comments and grade errors using e.g. a clipboard manager. Responding to the translator's responses in the third step is still a nightmare, however.

The tool does not use standard Windows controls, and does not offer predictable positioning of fields, or predictable keyboard navigation between elements, so pasting content into it can't be automated. So the ultimate solution to accepting jobs with this tool is to export from and import to the XML file.
