More and more questions here deal with how to make use of earlier translations in Studio 2009. There are some translators who had never used Trados before buying Studio, and now have a lot of „manual” translations; others had, but now they are facing earlier versions licence problems; sometimes the agency has one, and the translator has another version; still others used some other CAT tool and now conversion is a problem – and who knows how many different situations can arise when convert... More and more questions here deal with how to make use of earlier translations in Studio 2009. There are some translators who had never used Trados before buying Studio, and now have a lot of „manual” translations; others had, but now they are facing earlier versions licence problems; sometimes the agency has one, and the translator has another version; still others used some other CAT tool and now conversion is a problem – and who knows how many different situations can arise when converting to Studio 2009 sdltm would be a useful option.
The main problem is how to convert and integrate the translated text into the target text of Studio 2009. This problem can be solved without using any earlier Trados versions, Winalign, or other CAT tool, except Studio 2009 itself, if you follow the procedure below:
- Create a (.doc) file where each source segment is joined with its target segment and separated by a special character; - Open the file in Studio 2009 Editor view and copy each „combined segment” from the source side to the target side; - By batch confirming, place the source and the target side into a new TM; - In Translation Memories View clean the source side from the target segments and the target side from the source segments.

It is very helpful suggestion!
