Is there any simple way (reg-file, ini file) to transfer chosen settings (not all) (segmentation, SQL filters) to others or between languages?

For example to transfer to colleagues segmentation rules or transfer segmentation rules from one lang to another (tab separation)?

We need a good settings backup feature in DVX3 (custom keyboard shortcuts, segmentation rules, etc.) Nov 18, 2016

Yes, I would love a simple and fool-proof way to back up or transfer my segmentation rules. And, just as important: all my custom keyboard shortcuts. For reasons that are all my own fault, I often find myself reinstalling my CAT tools, and even my OS quite often. In such cases, it is a royal pain in the ass to have to re-create all of my customised settings (keyboard shortcuts, segmentation rules, etc.). It would therefore be fantastic if there was some sort of easy to use backup system in DBX, that would allow you to easily backup (and share), all of your painstakingly customised settings.

I actually recently asked Support about a way to backup my custom keyboard shortcuts, and this is what they said (I'll just paste the entire conversation):

Just a quick question before I do so: how can I make sure my customised keyboard shortcuts survive this process? I've edited quite a few.

The same question applies to any settings I may I have customised (fuzzy match setting, etc.): is there any way to save/restore them?

Best wishes,

Michael

On a related note: that would be a feature request of mine for the future. Some kind of Export/import of keyboard settings (and other settings) would be very useful (e.g., under File > Backup)!

SUPPORT:

It is possible to export, and then import, all the "customizations". You can do this in the Customize dialog, by selecting the Customize Ribbon tab, and clicking on Import/Export.

ME:

Hi Lorenzo,

Sorry to bother you, but I did what you said, and exported all customisations to the XML file, reinstalled DVX as per your instructions, and then reimported my customisations. However, it seems I lost my custom keyboard shortcuts. However, if I export all customisations now, even though my custom keyboard shortcuts don't work in DVX, I can see them if I open the XML file itself (attached).

For example, I changed the default KBS for "Quick add to termbase" to: "Ctrl+Q", which is shown in one of the entries in the XML file, but doesn't work in DVX itself. I have a feeling I might be missing sth basic here.

Hmm, it also seems to not have transferred my custom segmentation rules. Was it supposed to have?

Michael

SUPPORT:

Those (custom segmentation rules) are stored in the settings file, so exporting the customizations wouldn't affect them.

SUPPORT:

I was wrong at first.

I exported customizations, and I thought that there were entries for keyboard shortcuts.

Now, I have tried comparing a customization file exported before changing a keyboard shortcut, and comparing it with a customization file exported after, and found that there was no difference.

So, reimporting the customization file you created won't restore the keyboard shortcuts.

ME:

Thanks for getting back to me Lorenzo! Might I then make it a feature request, to somehow make it possible to back up customised keyboard shortcuts? I usually spend an inordinate amount of time customising a very large amount of the keyboard shortcuts of any program, and consequently also waste a lot of time if they get lost for some reason (reinstalling the program, OS crashes, etc.). It would be extremely helpful to be able to back them up somehow!

Best wishes,

Michael

I have done so.
